Crew Photo - Plankowners

Plankowners were crewmembers who boarded the ship when she was first placed into service. They can be thought of as being the "original" crewmembers.  This photograph was taken on Commissioning Day, 13 July 1944, at the City Docks, Orange, Texas.  Mrs. Doyle C. Barnes, wife of Ensign Barnes, sponsored the ship at the launching but she was unable to attend the commissioning ceremony.  However, the family was represented by Mr. and Mrs. Ross B. Barnes of Belton, Texas, parents of Ensign Barnes.
